Post AK Firearm Freedom Act (HB 186) Status
Looks like the HB 186 Firearm Freedom Act is scheduled in the Judiciary Committee today:

http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_ ... bill=HB186

I'm excited to see what happens. It's already passed the House. It was sent to Finance in Senate and passed, now is on to Judiciary. After that I believe it is supposed to get a final vote (assuming it doesn't have to hit any more committees).

1:30 today is the schedule for it.

I think listening to this, would be like watching paint dry. Think I'll wait for the outcome.

It's a pretty good perspective on some of our state rep's though. I've listened to it at times and had a few of those "Who the hell elected these people" moments :| Certainly gives some insight as to who not to vote for.

One more hurdle passed. Now off to Senate Finance Committee:

My understanding is that once it passes Finance, it's up for a general Senate vote, and off to be signed by the Governor.

This is very interesting...I was able to find out the gist but not the details; anyone have a summary? All I know is that HB 186 is "Act declaring that certain firearms and accessories are exempt from federal regulation." And that the firearms must be stamped with Made in Alaska. It makes sense that they would be exempt from federal regulation because they were not involved in inter-state commerce.
Guess my question is, does this apply to all types of firearms made here? Thanks for the post, it'll be awesome when it goes thru, and yet another reason to love being in this wonderful state :)

Yep, applies to all firearms in state.

If you click the "Full Text" link at http://www.legis.state.ak.us/basis/get_complete_bill.asp?session=26&bill=HB186 it has all the full details. Also includes small add-ons, etc.

An update:

This is now awaiting signing by the Governor. It has passed both House and Senate, and once signed by Gov Parnell will be law in Alaska.
